Meet the veterinary team
Fflur Roberts BSc(Hons) BVMS MRCVS
Fflur qualified as a Vet from Glasgow University in 2006 having previously completed a degree in Agricultural Science with Honours in Animal Science at Endinburgh University. She came to work at Camlas as a mixed practitioner in 2006 and became a partner in Camlas Farm Vets LLP in October 2013. Fflur enjoys all aspects of farm animal practice but her main interest lies in beef and sheep production and medicine, with lambing time being her most favourite time of year. When not at work Fflur enjoys roaming the countryside walking her dogs or running trail races. She dreams of one day owning her own flock of native sheep.
Amy McKie BVSc(Hons) DBR MRCVS
Amy graduated from the University of Bristol in 2009 and has worked at Camlas since. Initially working in mixed practice, she became a farm-only partner with Camlas Farm Vets in October 2013 when the original practice split into two businesses. Her interests include fertility work, infectious diseases and herd health planning. Amy completed the Diploma in Bovine Reproduction (DBR) in 2016 with merit and is keen to work with farmers to maimise their herd's fertility.
Outside of work she is usually found walking or doing 'ridiculous' sports such as SCUBA diving, outdoor swimming, mountaineering, caving or off-road mountain biking!
Rhi is a local girl born and bred, coming from just outside Meifod. She started work at Camlas when she was 17 years old and trained as a Powys Training student where she was awarded Student of the Year. After completing her administration courses she became a permanent member of the team as a veterinary receptionist which ranges from answering the phone to making lots of tea and coffee, as well as lots of paperwork! Rhi was brought up on a smallholding where she now breeds Welsh Cobs. Outside of work she is kept very busy with her horses, dogs and hounds and enjoy going on a day's hunting. In 2014 Rhi completed an AMTRA Suitably Qualified Persons (SQP) course, which has helped her to give the best advice to farmers and allows her to prescribe certain categories of medications to farmers herself.
Clair joined us in October 2019 and quickly became an integral part of the team.
Veterinary Receptionist and on-farm scorer
Cerys joined us in November 2018 working part-time. Her office work involves working on reception as well as responsibility for our in-house lab testing. On farm she is an accredited Mobility Scorer and undertakes routine mobility and body condition scoring on our dairy herds. She also assists the vets on-farm such as wormer resistance profiling, faecal egg count collection, and helping with TB paperwork on large tests. Cerys is also a relief milker. When she is not working, she is an active member of Young Farmers and rears a small flock of Greyface Dartmoors.
Katherine Hall BSc(Hons) BVetMed MRCVS
Katherine joined the practice in August 2017 after qualifying from the Royal Veterinary College in London. Before starting her veterinary training she studied Animal Science with honours in Livestock Technology at Newcastle University. She is interested in all aspects of farm work, especially dairy fertility and herd health planning. Outside of work she enjoys caring for her Greyface Dartmoor flock, training Asterix her Brittany Spaniel, and riding her horse Roddy.
Emma Hughes BSc MA VetMB MRCVS
Emma worked as a mixed practice vet for 11 years before joining our practice in September 2018. Prior to her veterinary degree from Cambridge she studied Animal Science at Nottingham University. Emma is experienced in farm animal work and keen to focus on all aspects of the job. Outside of work Emma enjoys walking her adorable border terrier, Dora, and helping her family with their flock of sheep.
Iolo White BVSc MRCVS
Iolo joined the practice in September 2013 to focus on his interest in farm animal practice, after working for two years with Williams Vets in Machynlleth as a mixed practice vet. He becamse a partner in the business in October 2017. His particular interest is sheep medicine and health planning.
Iolo grew up in Pontrobert where he went to primary school, followed by Llanfair Caereinion high school. He then went to Liverpool university to study vet science, and is enjoying being back in his local area again after 8 years away!
In his spare time Iolo enjoys managing his small flock of Black Welsh Mountain and Balwen sheep, as well as riding his horse and walking his two dogs Mostyn and Gel. He also enjoys socialising and cooking. He follows rugby, and has taken up playing again with COBRA and is happy to be back on the pitch again.
Receptionist and Accounts Manager
Kim joined our team in March 2018 with a farming background. She is a woman of many talents, working on reception as well as being responsible for dairy data input and our accounts manager. Outside of work, when she is not helping on the family beef and poultry farm (or managing her menagerie of farm pets!) she has a love of running and the outdoors.
